A typical work day consisted of waiting on customers in search of that right cologne or lipstick or skincare product. I did enjoy myself in a sense for I helped open the store in October of I made friends and enjoyed helping people. The hardest part about this job was that hours were cut and I was moved to another department.
Icut and I was moved to a different department. Was this review helpful? Yes No. Report Share. Not family oriented.
The managers of some departments really don't care about anything but whatever benefits them. Don't seem very happy with their jobs. Yes There are 2 helpful reviews 2 No. I really enjoyed working here at first. People seem friendly and at first, it feels comfortable. However, that quickly changed. The management here is a complete and utter mess. The cosmetics department here is cattier and more cliquey than high school. People gossip about your most personal business here, including department managers and upper management.
There is no trust here between employees and management. My DM once called a counter manager a liar in front of our store manager. LP is often rude and never has the employees in mind. Cosmetics and fragrances would get a lot of theft and a lot of times we were yelled at by LP for not catching a theft in a large area. A lot of people don't like the HR Manager, but I liked him and he liked me. When I put in my notice, he tried to get me to stay and offered anything he could to keep me. But ultimately, they do not care about their employees here.
And if you work in cosmetics, do NOT trust anyone there with your business. It will get out and they will talk about it and they won't always be nice about it. The only positive was my pay, which was above min. It was easy enough, but the environment is so unpleasant it made working there unbearable. The management is awful, they are only out for themselves and have no idea what teamwork or collaboration is.
If another coworker in the store is doing something wrong they turn their back and pretend it isn't happening if they are one of their "favorites. Professionalism is non-existent, very click-y atmosphere, if you work in a department with commission your coworkers will say they will give you the sale and then take it for themselves and stab you in the back the first chance they get, because they know management won't do anything.
The sad thing is a lot of the management has been placed in their rolls because they have been there for a long time and they really don't know how to lead a group or even run a register. Say goodbye to any form of family time that you may want or even a day off to go to a family function like a wedding even if you are there every time they ask you to come in.
You have to put up with a lot of unprofessionalism, and honestly it was the worst job I ever worked. For a "family owned company" they sure don't have many family values for making employees work on Thanksgiving, hazardous snow days and Christmas Eve. Don't waste your time. Pros None. Cons unsupportive management, few hours for full time position, click-y atmosphere. Yes There are 9 helpful reviews 9 No.
Management needs work. The only rewarding part about working at Boscov's was building rapport with customers; since I was in the beauty department this meant that I'd have returning customers that were willing to spend money and bring in friends and family and they'd do the same.
I learned new skills to put on my such as application of makeup, how to be a better salesperson and overcome objectives as a salesperson, which looks great on my. Plus, working for a well known brand name Lancome, Estee Lauder, Clinique was a great addition to my as well. However at the location I was working at there were many unprofessional as well as inappropriate practices going on, that I'm sure the store manager was well aware of such as, favoritism, managers dating employees, never following through with promises that would only help their employees succeed, hiring new employees with the intentions of replacing others for example, we had a pregnant woman working with us and as soon as she went on maternity leave, they replaced her with another Beautiful female coming out of boscoves after Beautiful female coming out of boscoves that this person would be in another area of the department and no one would be replacing the woman on maternity leave employees doing things to others to be vindictive among other things as well.
In short, working at Boscov's wasn't an awful experience; the customers, for the most part, are great and the co-workers, for the most part, are nice but if you have any problems with co-workers, you're more or less on your own because the managers of the departments are going to put their favorites over others and aren't going - more Yes There are 1 helpful reviews 1 No.
Do you enjoy working at your company? It is just an over all horrible place to work. The mangers are rude and disrespectful. The goals we were responsible for meeting were so unreasonable no one ever met them. No one ever followed the rules including the managers, and the store manager was just over all disrespectful and a horrible person. The management team was very unorganized and out of touch with the cosmetics department.
Clinique did a very good job training us individually, but being a smaller store, we got minimal visits from our coordinators and executives. Yes There are 3 helpful reviews 3 No. I learned at while being at Clinique learning hands on is definitely a strong suit for me but most enjoyable part of my job is seeing how happy my clients are after they use the products I suggested for them.
I love to learn, and each day is different from the day. Pros contests and meeting new people. Cons what is good for one is not necessarily good for another. Nothing unexpected. The store manager and everything else about this job was awesome, but the cosmetics department manager literally ran the department into the ground. She had no idea what she was doing, she would steal sales from employees, break rules, and played favorites. Boscov's is not a bad place to work, just be careful which department you work in. Pros Friendly work environment, easy work.
Cons Favoritism, poor management. Yes There are 6 helpful reviews 6 No. Beauty Advisor Cosmetic Sales. Cosmetics Sales Consultant- FT. Retail- Building clientele and greeting customers. Busy days, setting counter and stocking shelves. Great Events and great team members. Pros friendly customers. Cons short breaks, pressure to get credit card apps. Cosmetics is a fun and hard place to work. I learned a lot working at Boscovs Cosmetics Department. The management is not the best, they do not always work with your outside life and taking days off. My co workers are very nice, and that makes it a nice place to work. Pros Nice co workers. Cons management not always the best. Yes There are 6 helpful reviews 6 No There are 7 unhelpful reviews 7. Every day was challenging to listen to the customers and determine the skin care products that would best suit their needs. It was also very rewarding to sell them products that I believed in and knew that they would like.
The hardest part of the job was addressing the skin care concerns of the customers but it was very enjoyable to see and success.
Pros Training, visible positive. Cons Never working a set schedule. Yes There are 4 helpful reviews 4 No There are 3 unhelpful reviews 3. I enjoyed my job at Boscovs. I got to help people on a daily basis feel better about themselves. It was a great pleasure to make people smile. My counter manager was excellent and we worked really well together. We actually were able to bring our sales up and meet a goal set by the company and won a prize!Beautiful female coming out of boscoves
